RR74 Stampless PAID cover with the Cobham VA C RR (Virginia Central Railroad) CDS and handstamp PAID "5" (ms) 17 FEB (1862. Orange paper cover from the Rives Correspondence addressed to Capt A. L. Rives, Act Chf Engr Bureau, Richmond, Virginia. This Cobham railroad postmark is unlisted in the CSA catalog as a handstamp PAID 5 stampless. It is listed only with a general issue stamp. Minor reduction at the top and part of top back flap missing. Exceptionally clean cover.

Alfred Landon Rives (1830-1903) was promoted Lt Col May 1863 and Col March 1864. He served in Richmond mainly as the second ranking officer in the Engineer Bureau. The Rives Correspondence is well known and contains many of the known Cobham railroad postmarks.
