USA #65 (nice 4-Margin stamp) with a Target cancel and the matching Rock Island, Ill CDS 31 JAN 1865. POW cover from the Rock Island Barracks prison addressed to Mrs. Lucy Hughes, Louisville, Kentucky, Care of Messers Wade & Smith. The cover is not through-the-lines. The sender of the cover is not identified but would have been a Kentucky CSA soldier POW sending a letter home to his wife or perhaps another relative. Blue oval "R. I.
