PAT437 | Patriotic Cover with the 12-Star Stars and Bars in full color Type F12-6
handcarried outside the postal system to Hen(ry) A. Castor, Concord,
Cabarrus County NC Care of Col Wallace. Cover shows a little light
foxing with an edge repair at the top center not affecting anything, a
small edge repair at the bottom left, and most of top back flap
missing. Sender of the cover and place of origin unknown. Still quite a
decent example of a scarce CSA patriotic flag design. Henry Alexander Castor (1833-1909) is listed as a farm laborer in Cabarrus County NC on the Federal Census of 1860. He enlisted as a private in Co C 57th NC Inf 7/4/1862. He is listed as wounded at Harper's Ferry 7/6/1864 and then furloughed. After the war, he returned home to Cabarrus County NC. No information on a Col Wallace. |
