W. J. W. Crowder (1827-1899) is listed on the Census of 1850 as a
schoolmaster and on the Census of 1860 as a colporter (a distributer of
religious tracts).
Second Use (outside) -- CSA #6 two singles (both stamps 4-Margin) widely separated on the cover and both tied by BLUE grid cancels. The BLUE small double circle Raleigh NC
CDS 26 JUL 1862 is in the center of the cover between the two stamps.
Addressed to Rev A. C. Harris, Sassafras Fork, No. Ca. Receiving
docketing indicates that the sender was Rev W. Crowder, the addressee
of the first use. |
