The Western Railroad was a short 43 mile line connecting
Fayetteville to the coal fields at Egypt (now Cumnock) NC. McIver's Station was
not a post office but was the terminus of the railroad line at the coal fields
and the location of the Endor Iron Works (Endor Iron Furnace) founded by
brothers John and Donald McRae of Wilmington NC. The Iron Works supplied pig
iron to the Confederacy 1862-1865 which was used to make weapons. The Iron
Works is currently being restored as a Lee County tourist attraction. |
