NC954 Stampless PAID cover with the Goldsborough NC CDS 9 JUL and handstamp PAID 10 Type C. Addressed to Mrs. L. E. Myers, Germanton, Stokes Co. NC.  Sealed back flap opening tear, period ink stain to the left of the postmark, light edge staining at left. Still quite a presentable cover.

The addressee, Laura Elizabeth Myers (1826-1884), was the wife of Addison C. Myers (1830-1916) who is listed as a prosperous farmer in Stokes County NC on the Federal Census of 1860. He mustered into Co D 52nd NC Inf as a private 4/28/1862 and promoted 1st Sergt 5/28/1862. Sergt Myers was wounded and captured as a POW at Gettysburg 7/3/1863 (Pickett's Charge, Heth's Division, Pettigrew's Brigade) and hospitalized in Baltimore until paroled and exchanged in November 1863. On 8/18/1864, he transferred into the Veterans Reserve Corps. His name is mispelled on the army records as "Anderson C. Myers" instead of "Addison." He is listed on the Federal Census of 1880 as a tobacconist in Germanton NC.
