The
Fair Grounds Hospital was the first NC state military hospital for
soldiers established in Raleigh later known as General Hospital #7.
Surgeon Edmund Burke Haywood (1825-1894), an 1849 graduate of the
University of Pennyslvania Medical School and a prominent surgeon
practicing in Raleigh, established the hospital in 1861 and was the
Surgeon-in-Charge. He would later serve as the Sugeon-in-Charge of
General Hospital #13 and had various other assignments as a Surgeon in
the Confederate Army including serving as the chief of the medical
examination board. After the war, he returned to his private
practice in Raleigh. No information on Doctor H. H. Harris. |
