Stampless College Postmarked Cover with the small single rim Trinity College NC CDS and handstamp PAID 5 Type B 25 APR (1862). Trinity College would later become Duke University. Addressed to Ralph Gorrel Esq, Raleigh NC. The Trinity College Type B Handstamp PAID 5 is listed in the new CSA Catalog as "Unsupported." This cover certainly supports the listing. Very Fine. Ralph Gorrel (1803-1875), from a prominent North Carolina plantation family dating to the colonial era, was both a planter (owned 27 slaves on the 1860 Federal Slave Census) and a prominent attorney.
