CSA #32XU1 Greensborough NC stampless PAID 10 Provisional all in RED 24 NOV 186-. Addressed to Superintendent Christian Factory, Swift Island, Montgomery Co., NC. Swift Island is an obscure listed North Carolina CSA post office. Manuscript "OB" (Official Business) at top left. "Charge Box 38" at top right indicating that the postage was charged to the sender's box number. Period docketing at left concerning the original contents "Bill of Sales of Negroes keep with this envelope" which suggests that "Christian Factory" may refer to a plantation. Small edge repair at upper right involving part of the top rim of the provisional mark. Small part of top back flap missing. Still a very clean cover with very bold strikes of the red postal markings. Most of the strikes on the 32 recorded Greensborough provisional covers are either weak and/or partial. Only a very few examples have strikes this nice. Note the two spellings - "Greensborough" in the postmark and "Greensboro" in the provisional mark. Ex-Penguin Collection.
