CSA #1 Stone 1 Position 41
(margin touches at the bottom) tied by a North Carolina postmark not
otherwise identified 2- FEB (1862). Coarse brown paper cover adressed
to Col Alex McMillan, Dundarrach P. Office, Robeson County NC. Period
military docketing at the left "Daniel McMillan 38 Reg N.C.V. (North Carolina Volunteers)." Very Fine.
There
is no Col Alexander McMillan listed in the Confederate Army. The
addresse is also not found on the Federal Census of 1860. The addressee
was apparently a planter in the Dundarrach area, and the title of "Col"
was honorary. The docketing indicates the cover was very likely from a
son. There are two different soldiers named Daniel McMillan that
mustered into Co K 38th NC Inf
on the same day 1/30/1862. One was 21 and the other 22. Both from
Robeson County and undoubtedly related (perhaps cousins). One Died of
Disease in 1864, the other survived the war. Could benefit from further
indepth research into the family. A short history of the regiment
is included with the cover. |
