York Collegiate Institute was a
school in Alexander County NC founded by Brantley York in 1856 who
founded a number of schools one of which became Duke University. York
Collegiate Institute lasted into the early 1900's changing its name to
York Institute and had its own listed post office with the post office
active 1856-1908. Wartime CSA covers from this school post office are
very scarce. This cover could arguably be considered as a College Cover
because of the school post office manuscript postal markings.
The
cover was unfolded to take the scan of the inside First Use (Danville
side of the cover) and then resealed. The paper of the cover is thin
and shows wear. It is best left the way it is. A copy of the scan of
the inside use is included with the cover. |
