James C. Holmes (1826-1865), a merchant and farmer from Sampson County NC, entered service as 2nd Lieut of Co A 30th NC Inf
8/18/1861, promoted Capt 8/3/1861, and Major 9/3/1863. In 1864, he
developed paralysis on his left side and other debilitating problems
(from the description it sounds like he had a stroke - JLK) and was
retired to the Veteran Reserve Corps 8/19/1864. He died in Oct 1865 from his debilitated condition. |
