NC659 CSA #68xu1 Raleigh NC Handstamp PAID 5 Provisional with the small double circle Raleigh NC CDS in BLUE 10 AUG 1861 and the PAID 5 Control Mark in RED. Very decent strikes of the postal markings. Orange paper cover addressed to J. J. Hoyle Esq, Knob Creek, Cleaveland NC. Part of backflap missing. Light edge mounting marks at bottom center and left center. Very clean appearing cover. Joseph J. Hoyle would later enlist at age 24 in Co F 55th NC Inf on 5/30/1862. He was promoted Sergt 11/25/1862 and commissioned 1st Lt 3/11/1863. He was wounded at Globe Tavern, Va 8/18/1864 and died of his wounds at a Richmond hospital 9/1/1864. Very clean cover. $450.00
