CSA #11 (AD) (4-Margin) tied by a partial strike of the Grenada, Miss CDS
with a more complete strike of the same CDS to the left dated 20 MAY
(1865). The cover is dated as to year by the original letter which
remains with the cover. Very dark coarse brown paper cover which
appears to be a homemade adversity cover with a repaired upper left
corner. Addressed to Rev E. L. Compere, Casyville, Miss. This
cover is believed to be the current latest known legitimate Confederate
use of a General Issue Stamp East of the Mississippi River. A very
important Confederate postal history cover and the subject of a Confederate Philatelist article published in the Second Quarter 2016 issue of the journal. A copy of the journal issue containing the article is included with the cover.
