CSA #1 Stone 2 Position 38 (very nice 4-Margin stamp) tied by a full strike of the New Orleans, La CDS 24 JAN (1862). Addressed locally to Geo Farish Esqr, New Orleans, La. The cover was unclaimed and after a period of time was advertised with the application of the boxed New Orleans ADV Type F handstamp (partial but recognizable strike). The cover is by definition an Overpaid Drop Letter as there is no evidence on the cover that river mail was involved. But it is still possible that the cover was brought into the city from somewhere else and then dropped at the post office. No way to tell for sure if the cover originated inside or outside the city without the enclosure. Very clean cover with a beautiful stamp.
