LA312 CSA #11 (AD) (4-Margin) Pen-Cancelled with matching manuscript “Logansport, La Mar 13 (1865).” Period faint docketing at left indicates 1865 usage. Addressed to Miss Jettie Word Care of Col T. J. Word, Palestine, Texas. The Word Correspondence from Palestine, Texas is well known. The addresse’s brother was Pvt John J. Word of Co I 7th Tex Mounted Volunteers (Cavalry). This unit was part of the 1861-1862 Army of New Mexico Sibley Expedition. Pvt Word survived the expedition. But this cover is not from her brother. Most likely it is from Henry Jacob Hunter who was in the same unit as her brother but in 1862 became the Regimental 2nd Assistant Surgeon. Shortly after the war, Jettie Word married Dr. Hunter. Logansport is near Shreveport on the Texas-Louisiana border. In 1865, the 7th Tex Cav was assigned to the Department of Western Louisiana and was in that area. Minor wear but still Very Fine. $300.00
