John Emory Rylander (1836-1864), a teacher by profession, entered service as the First Sargeant of Co A 12th Ga Inf 6/15/1861. He was commissioned Capt and transferred to Co C 10th Ga Battalion 3/4/1862 and promoted Major two weeks later on 3/17/1862. He was Killed-in-Action at Cold Harbor (Va) 6/2/1864 and is buried in Americus, Georgia. A more detailed biography of Maj Rylander accompanies the cover.
