Joseph Belknap Smith (1815-1888) was a businessman and mine owner (copper and gold) in Wilkes and Columbia counties, Georgia. Columbia Mines, Georgia, in Columbia County was named for the gold mines in the area (Columbia Mining Company). The Smith family papers are archived at Duke University.
