GA1211 Stampless Soldiers Due cover with the Savannah, Geo "Stars" CDS  and handstamp (Due) "10" (this "Due" use is currently not listed in the new CSA Catalog) 1 JAN (New Years Day cover most likely 1864). Orange paper cover addressed to Eugene Verdery Esqr, Augusta, Ga. Endorsed at left “E. Verdery Co A OA.” Minor back flap opening tears, otherwise Very Fine Ex-Kaufmann.

Eugene F. Verdery Jr (1843-1921) writing home to his father. The endorsement is unusual as the unit that private Verdery served in was Co A 63rd Geo Inf. The 63rd Ga Inf also had artillery units. Co A was known as the Oglethorpe (Light) Artillery which is consistent with the "OA" in the endorsement. Private Verdery enlisted 3/6/1863. He is listed as wounded in the head at Peach Tree Creek (Ga) 7/20/1864 during the Siege of Atlanta.
