Robarts Care of Capt Walthour, Isle of Hope near Savannah, Georgia. 5 regiment Georgia Cavalry. Inside use is the Second Use -- CSA #11 (AD) (4-Margin but close on the left) tied by the Savannah, Ga
CDS (date not apparent). Addressed to Miss L. J. Robarts, Marietta,
Cobb County, Georgia. Cover flapped up from the lower right corner to
display both stamps. Very clean cover. Ex-Kaufmann.
Joseph J. Robarts enlisted in Co C 1st Ga Cav Battalion 5/17/1862 and transferred to Co G 5th Ga Cav 1/20/1863. He is listed as wounded at Kenesaw Mountain (Ga) 6/27/1864 and died of his wounds a few days later in Atlanta.
William Lowndes Walhour (1820-1890) entered service as a 1st Lieut in Co C 1st Ga Cav Battalion 10/1/1861 and transferred as Capt of Co G 5th Ga Cav
1/20/1863. He is listed as having sustained a minor wound at
Murfreesboro (Ten) 8/15/1864. In November 1864, he entered
detached service as a brigade Acting Inspector General. More
