GA1145 |
CSA #11 (AD) (4-Margin) tied by the Milledgeville, Ga CDS 13 MAY. Orange paper cover STATE OF GEORGIA Official Business Adjutant & Ins. Genl's Office imprint
(CC S-GA-06). Military Address to Col J. J. Findley ADC Dahlonega, Ga.
James J. Findley early in the war was the Major of the 52nd Ga Inf but
resigned in 1862. His rank of Colonel later in the war was Georgia
state rank as he commanded a Georgia home guard militia unit in Lumpkin
County. Dahlonega was the county seat of Lumpkin County. ADC in the
address refers to "Aide-de-Camp" and moat likely means the cover was
addressed to the Colonel's ADC and the office in Millidgeville (the
Georgia state capital during the war) probably did not know who was
currently serving in that position. The cover is reduced a little at
the top to the imprint but not involving the imprint. The top back flap
is missing, otherwise a very clean appearing cover. |
