GA1114 CSA #5 Position 45 (95) (White Arrow Variety (CC 5-v3) (4-Margin with a bottom sheet margin and part imprint "Lith of H...") tied by a full strike of the Atlanta, Ga CDS 5 AUG 1862. Orange paper cover addressed to Dr. Francis Thornton, Post Surgeon, Gainesville, Ala. Dr. Thornton (1827-1863) served the CSA in various posts. He was killed 5/31/1863 when two drunken men confronted him and wanted "medicinal" whiskey. Short biography of Dr. Thornton included with the cover. The cover is missing the top back flap and has been professionally repaired along the top edge including the upper left corner of the stamp. The 10c Rose stamp with an imprint is very scarce on cover. CSA Certificate 2000. $750.00
