GA1050 CSA #6xu2 Atlanta PAID 5 Provisional 25 JUL 1861. Military address to John B. Cobb, Lieut Comdg Mell Riflemen, Athens, Georgia. The Mell Riflemen were assigned to serve with Cobb’s Legion in Virginia. Cobb’s Georgia Legion was commanded by Colonel (later Brigadier General) Thomas R. R. Cobb who was Howell Cobb’s younger brother. Brig-Gen T. R. R. Cobb was killed at Fredericksburg in December 1862. Lieut John B. Cobb was his son and thus a nephew of Howell Cobb and survived the war. This cover is listed in the Crown Census of Atlanta provisional covers as ATL-035. The cover is reduced a little at the right just into the address but not affecting the postal markings. There is a pressed vertical fold at the right, and the cover has been lightly cleaned to an overall very fine appearance with clear strikes of the postal markings.    $650.00
