FL236 CSA #6 Horz Pair (little edge nick at right center) tied by the Welaka, Fla double ring postmark and manuscript date "Sept 22 (1862)." Manuscript receiving date "Oct 1st 1862." Coarse brown paper cover from the Bryant-Stephens Correspondence with Military Address to Mr. Davis H. Bryant Care Capt Robt Harrison, Hart's Road Station - Fla. R. Road, E. Fla. The Florida Railroad ran a diagonal course accross the upper Florida Peninsula from Fernandina on the Atlantic Coast to Cedar Key on the Gulf Coast. This cover was formerly part of the Conrad Bush award winning Fancy and Unusal Cancels exhibit and was used as an illustration on Page 362 of the Collector's Guide to Confederate Philately Second Edition. This is the only cover listed in the Welaka Briggs Census with CSA #6 stamps. Minor edge wear, small corner repairs, and a little ink erosion but still with a very clean overall appearance with an excellent strike of the postmark.

Davis H. Bryant (1839-1914), an accountant by profession, enlisted as a private in Co K 2nd Fla Cav 5/16/1862. He was promoted Sergt in 1863 but soon reduced to the ranks (reason unknown). He also spent time on detached duty for the Quartermaster's Department and served throughout the rest of the war. He took the Oath of Allegiance on 5/20/1865 in Waldo, Florida. After the war, he relocated to New York City where he was successful in business. Upon retirement in his later years, he returned to Florida making his home in Orlando where he is buried.

Robert H. Harrison (1830-1898) entered service 5/16/1862 as Captain of Co K 2nd Fla Cav, a unit which spent the war in Florida. He was promoted Major of the regiment 9/8/1862. At the end of the war, he took the Oath of Allegiance in Baldwin, Florida, 5/17/1865. Major Harrison was from a wealthy planter family in Nassau County, Florida. After the war, he returned to his life in Nassau County.
