FL279 CSA #12 (KB) Dark Blue (4-Margin) tied by the Monticello, Flor CDS 2- MAR (1865) (late use). Addressed to R. H. Bradford Esqr, Tallahassee, Florida. Top back flap missing. Very clean cover.

Richard Henry Bradford (1800-1883) with his brother Ned were very prominent planters (Oak Hill Plantation, Pine Hill Plantation, and Water Oaks Plantation in Leon County just north of Tallahassee). His son Richard Henry Bradford Jr (1835-1861) was a Captain in the 1st Fla Inf and is generally regarded as the first CSA Florida officer killed in the war. He was Killed-in-Action leading his company storming Union entrenchments on Santa Rosa Island near Pensacola 10/9/1861.
