Stampless PAID cover with the small single rim Pilatka, Fla CDS 1 OCT (1861) and handstamp PAID 5 Type A over a manuscript "Pd Paid." Addressed to Miss Mary A. Smith, Perry's Mills, Tatnall Co., Ga. This is the listing cover for the Type A Pilatka handstamp and is the cover illustrated in the current CSA catalog. This cover is also illustrated on Page 208 in Dean Briggs' book on Florida Civil War Postal History. According to Dr Briggs, this cover is currently the only known example of the Pilatka Type A PAID 5 handstamp. Postal markings are a little smeared but easily recognizable. Very clean appearing cover. Ex-Bartels.
