tied by the Lake City, Fla
CDS 13 MAY (1863). Military Address to Mr. W. A. Bryant Care of Gen Bragg,
Tullahoma, Tenn. Cover with a little minor edge wear, otherwise a clean
appearance.
William A. Bryant (1837-1881) enlisted as a private in Co A 3rd FL Inf
5/1/1861. The regiment served in the Western Theater and was an Army of
Tennesse unit. Pvt Bryant was detailed several times to the
quartermaster service including at the time of this cover (May 1863).
Pvt Bryant was apparently serving under the quartermaster officer on
Gen Bragg's staff at the time of this cover. General Braxton Bragg was
the commander of the Army of Tennessee. Pvt Bryant survived the war and
surrendered 5/15/1865 at Lake City. William A. Bryant was the brother of Davis H. Bryant and his
sister was Olivia L. (Bryant) Stephens. The sender of this cover is not
positively indentified, but most likely from his wife, Rebecca, as Lake City was where they lived. |
