Stampless cover with the Warrington, Fla CDS and handstamp PAID 5 Type B 3 NOV (1861). Addressed to Mrs. J. D. Alison Care of Capt R. S. Hatcher, Cahaba, Ala. The Briggs Census lists 85 type B covers from Warrington. Very clean cover. Capt Robert S. Hatcher (1802-1872) was a very wealthy planter in Dallas County, Alabama. He was active in politics serving in the pre-war Alabama State Legislature and the Alabama State Senate. The origin of the designation of "Captain" is not known. Given his age, there is no record of his having served in the Confederate Army.
