FL170 CSA #11 (AD) (4-Margin with minor toning at the upper left corner) tied by an exceptionally nice full strike of the Quincy, Flor CDS 18 JUN. Coarse brown paper cover addressed to Mrs. M. Stanley, Athens, Ga. The cover is from Major Marcellus Stanley to his wife. Marcellus Stanley (1823-1890) was the first Captain of Co A Ga Troup Light Artillery and fought with his unit in the Army of Northern Virginia during the first part of the war. He was later promoted Major of Artillery and assigned to the staff of Maj Gen Howell Cobb arriving in Quincy, Florida in January 1863. The correspondence between Major Stanley and his wife is extensive. The Stanley family papers and wartime letters are archived at the University of Georgia libraries.
