AF244 Stampless Soldiers DUE cover with the Army of Northern Virginia field Due handstamp "10" in black Type ANV-19. Cover dates from late 1864 or early 1865 during the Siege of Petersburg. Light coarse paper cover addressed to Mrs. T. H. Law, Hartsville, Darlington Dist., S. Carolina. Endorsed at top right "A. M. A. 25th S. Car. Hagood's Brigade." Minor edge and corner wear. Very clean cover.

Andrew Moffett Adger (1846-1915) enlisted as a private in Co G 25th SC Inf 4/11/1864. He was assigned as the regimental Colonel's orderly and served for the remainder of the war and was surrendered 4/26/1865 at Durham Station NC. The addressee was Pvt Adger's married sister. After the war he became a very successful mining engineer in the West.
