Stampless PAID 5 Type A with the Hillsboro, Ark CDS 12 OCT (1861). Military Address to Mr. Milton G. Keese, Bentonville, Benton Cty., Arkansas. Col Churchills Regiment, Capt Jones Co G 1st Ark Mt Rifles. Small commercially made lady's type stationery cover blue lined on the inside. The addressee was the 2nd Lt of Co G 1st Ark Mounted Rifles commissioned on 6/1/1861 (no further record). Thomas James Churchill (1824-1905) was the Colonel of the regiment and was promoted Brig-Gen 3/4/1862 and Maj-Gen 3/18/1865. After the war, Churchill served as psotmaster of Little Rock, as the Arkansas State Treasurer in the 1870's, and as The Governor of Arkansas 1881-1883 resigning due to irregularities (missing funds) in the state's accounts when he served as the state treasurer. J. J. Jones was the Capt of Co G (no further record). Minor sealed edge tear top center, otherwise a clean cover and a scarce Arkansas use.
