3c Red Star envelope which pays no postage but was used as an Adversity
Cover. Addressed to Joseph F. White Esqr, Fort Mill SC. The
addressee, Joseph Franklin White (1795-1872), was a South Carolina
planter. Trans-Mississippi use from Arkansas to South Carolina. Period
notation at the bottom "No advice but to hold on.." most likely written
by the recipient and referring to the original contents which are no
longer with the cover. Back flap opening tears. Very clean
appearing cover. |
