AR105 Stampless cover with the small double circle Little Rock, Ark CDS and handstamp PAID 10 Type C. Period receiving docketing at the left dates the cover to OCT 1861. USA 3c Red Star envelope which pays no postage but was used as an Adversity Cover. Addressed to Joseph F. White Esqr, Fort Mill SC. The addressee, Joseph Franklin White (1795-1872), was a South Carolina planter. Trans-Mississippi use from Arkansas to South Carolina. Period notation at the bottom "No advice but to hold on.." most likely written by the recipient and referring to the original contents which are no longer with the cover. Back flap opening tears. Very clean appearing cover. $350.00
