USA #7 Horz Pair (4-Margin but tight at the top and with a small right sheet margin and a partially filled-in-frame at the right) (CC 7-R-v2) tied by the Montgomery, Ala CDS 27 MAY (1863). Military Address to Lieut Col Bolling Hall, 2nd Battalion, Halliards Legion, Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. Light
paper clip filing mark at the top to the left of the stamps. Reduced a
bit at the right where opened. Still a very clean and presentable cover.
Bolling
Hall Jr (1837-1866), from a prominent Alabama planter family, was the
Clerk of the Mongomery City Court in 1860. He entered service as Lieut
Col of the 2nd Inf Battalion of Halliards Alabama Legion 6/15/1862 and later promoted Colonel 59th Ala Inf
11/25/1863. He is listed as wounded at Chickamauga while leading a
charge September 1863 and lost a leg at Drewry's Bluff 5/16/1864
which ended his military service. He died 2/3/1866 as a direct result
of his war wounds and is buried in the Hall Family Cemetery in
Millbrook, Elmore County, Alabama. |
