CSA #59XU3 Montgomery, Ala PAID 10 stampless provisional in RED 4 SEP 1861. Full bold strikes of the postal markings. Adversity use of a USA 3c Red Star Die with patent lines as the Star Die paid no postage. Addressed to Mrs. Elizabeth F. Finney, Museville, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Small part of top back flap missing due to opening tears and a very small 6 mm sealed vertical opening edge tear at top center which does not detract. This cover is listed in the Crown Census of the RED Montgomery 10c Provisional and one of only two examples listed on a USA Star Die envelope. An extemely clean and very attractive cover.
