AL629 CSA #1 Stone 2 Position 5 (4-Magin) with the Tuscaloosa "Star" fancy cancel (CC AC-15) and a partial strike of the Tuscaloosa, Ala CDS at top center 23 FEB (1862). Addressed to Mrs. Gaius Whitfield, Demopolis, Ala. Gaius Whitfield (1804-1879) was a very wealthy planter in Marengo County, Alabama. Overall University of Alabama College Cover (CC AL-07b without "Tuscaloosa"). Cover with some dark staining and soiling around the edges (left, right, top) and a minor reduction on the left where opened, but still a very presentable college cover with a magnificent stamp and an excellent strike of the fancy cancel. $700.00
