AL592 CSA #2 Pat (4-Margin) tied by the small double circle Mobile, Ala CDS (date not apparent). Light pencil receiving docketing at left dates the cover to June 1862. Some restoration work to the top edge (which is actually quite well done) not involving the stamp or the postmark. Addressed to Mrs. W. D. C. Vaught, Canton, Miss. Still a very clean appearing cover even with the edge restoration and a very nice stamp.

The addressee was the wife of  William D. C. Vaught (b1835) who is listed on the 1860 Federal Census as a "clerk" (merchant) in New Orleans. He entered service as a 1st Lieut in the La Washington Light Artillery Battalion (Slocum's Battery) 5/26/1861. This unit served in the Western Theater. He survived the war and is listed on the 1870 Federal Census as a merchant in New Orleans.
