AL544 CSA #59xu9 Montgomery, Ala PAID 10 Provisional in Black with the Montgomery, Ala postmark dated 10 JAN (year not indicated). One of six recorded examples of this Montgomery provisional marking in the Crown census. Addressed to Dr. R. H. Duggar, Talladega, Alabama. Dr. Reuben Henry Duggar (1837-1925) of Marengo County, Ala served in the Alabama Hospital Service during the war. The Hospital Service unit disbanded in Talladega, Ala in April 1865. The Duggar family correspondence is in the archives at the Auburn University Library. Period pencil docketing at left indicates that the original letter, which is no longer with the cover, was from a “Surg(eon) Michel.” Very clean cover.
