10 on PAID 5 revalued Handstamp Provisional with the
provisional marks in RED.

CDS 10 JUL 1861. Addressed to Capt Jno W. A. Sanford, Norfolk,
Virginia. John William Agustine Sanford (1825-1913) entered service as
a private in Ch H 4th Ga
Inf and transferred to the 3rd Ala Inf Batt Hilliards Legion
where he rose in rank to Lt Col 6/25/1862. In Nov 1863, he was promoted
Col of the 60th Ala Inf.
After the war, he served as the Attoney General of Alabama. This is a
cover front only
which has been rebacked for preservation. The upper left corner has
been repaired in the past including the top part of the postmark to a
Very Fine overall appearance and can easily be exhibited. This cover is
one of five recorded revalued examples and is pictured on Page 236 of
the Crown Survey. PF Certificate 1976 which shows the cover prior to
