CSA #7 USED London Paper Block of 4 on Small Piece with a
Socked on the Nose strike of the Austin, Tex double circle CDS. The date
appears to be 7 APR 1862 which is not compatible with the stamp. May
very well represent an incorrect yeardate in the CDS as was known to have
happened in the Austin postmark. The postmark is most definitely genuine.
Each stamp also has a one vertical line pen stroke cancel. The stamps could
easily be mistaken for a CSA #6; but on close examination, the printing is
just a bit coarse and there are also small plate flaws. The stamp is therefore
an early printing of CSA #7 on De La Rue Paper. Margin just touches the
design along the left side and at the top left corner. Used multiples with a
Texas postmark are not common.
