Comments about the web site: Your web site was very informative. I needed some images for a research project in school, and I couldn't copy the pictures of the stamps. This may be due to the fact that I am not very knowledgeable about the internet, but that was the only problem I had with it. I really enjoyed browsing through this site!!!

Comments about the web site: great site for anyone interested in civil war. i have often wondered about the csa post office and how they sent and received mail across the lines. how someone in the south would send a letter to a family member in the north did each side let mail go? even with the other's postage on it? i have read lots of books on the war but none mention much about the post office only that a certain solider sent a letter home but did not describe how it got there..this is a great site and one can learn a great deal from it and i will ---thanks-----Robert Trower

Comments about the web site: excellant - the section on "Fakes", etc makes me wonder about my two "CSA #11" stamps that appear to be profoundly different in appearence. Yet there is no one major item that differs - you just look at it and you know that they didn't come from the same "pod". Looking forward to a return visit to this site.

Comments about the web site: Thank you for the information. My father died and left a number of puzzling things. Just found these c11 stamps and because of your page, could identify them. Someone wrote "confiderate to stage 1863" in the stamp gutter-- there are 9 stamps possibly unused, green, and pasted to a stiff printed sheet that shows a recipe on the edges and on the back, a part of engraved picture of a cleric's covered-buttoned front with large chain (what is on the chain doesn't show). I have a couple of Civil War letters written by my ancestor from Brenham, Texas on blue notebook paper. He was a merchant there. His father-in- law (Moses Baine) was living there in 1863, but died the same day in 1864 that Baine's son died at the Battle of New Hope Church in Georgia. I wonder if the stamps that were cancelled in 1863 were from my ancestors' correspondance-- is there any way of checking, or are these stamps just on a small scrap of paper? Lucia Perry p.s. thanks for the cats. I just came in the room from taking baby pictures of my black and white kittens!

I picked the CSA category on eBay just because it was there and I feel like I've been sucked in. It's a fantastic specialty and I've just started to dabble. I'm a northerner whose family has been in this country for 150 yrs. The Civil War (War Between the States?) has been of interest to me all my life. Comments about the web site: GREAT!!! I am a long time coin collector who has become disenchanted with the present day marketing of coins and about 18 months ago picked up my fathers stamp album and am having a ball filling holes! Your website contains a great deal of valuable information that's not to be found in Scott. It will be one of my regular sites to visit. I am very happy to report that today I purchased a #10 on cover (vertical crease) 2 and 1/2 full lines with a small 1/16th inch of the fourth. I now only need #9 for all the regular issues. My great-great grandfather was a physician in a Virginia militia during the Great War of Northern Aggression.

I am a long time Civil War buff, and only recently have I decided to collect CSA stamps, although I have been collecting US stamps for about 8 years. I have only one CSA stamp in my collection (CSA #4)at this time, but am looking to add more. I plan to visit back often! Keep it up!

Comments about the web site: This site is absolutely packed with information ! You have done a wonderful job. I have two special friends who live in Holland. For my birthday, they sent me hundreds of postal stamps from all over the world. I was so surprised and amazed with these stamps. I began to search the web for information about stamps and stamp collecting. After finding your site, reading a lot of it,I am truely intrigued. My dad was a Postal Carrier back in the 1930's.Searching and reading about the CSA has sent my mind soaring. I can almost visualize dad (with the pistol he said he had to have for protection when he carried payrolls)in his old model T scooting down an old muddy road to deliver mail. This site has made me give thoughts to all those soldiers, many years ago, hungry, sick and simply tired, as they wrote to their loved ones and wishing they were back in the comfort of their homes. I could go on and on, but instead I will say "keep up the great work". I really feel that this site will help people more than just with their stamp collecting!! Thank you Sir!

Comments about the web site: What a beautiful site. And your "collection ain't bad either!" Seriuosly this web site is one of the best I have ever seen done, and I love the Pico Search ability. I'm a "double transfer, etc." collector and the search made it very easy to search for what I'm interested in. Peace.

A college friend of my wife obtained some stamps when she purchased some antiques. In this collection,I found a #10,unused, WITH FOUR FULL RECTANG ULAR FRAME LINES, WITH FULL GUM. Normally, when you get a collection there rarely are any gems in them.

The book that you and Conrad Bush prepared on the "Collector's Guide to Confederate Philately" is worth its weight in gold covers and silver stamps. I am still reading and enjoying it thoroughly. Thank you very much for sharing this information, in both your website and your book, in such a comprehensive, fascinating and absorbing manner. Please keep up the good work- Yours, Larry Bourdeau

Comments about the web site: I found this site very engaging and went over every bit of it. I used your section on fakes to vet my collection. Cover LA#82 was most interesting. I was partly raised in Lafayette, LA, very near New Iberia. I have visited the estate of W.F.Weeks (Weeks Island) a number of times. It has a great history. There are several websites describing the place. The salt mine there is now a huge storage site for the US strategic petroleum reserve. When I was young I could have related some information about W.F.W., Esq., but now I am old and remember little.

Comments about the web site: Extremely informative. Please keep your information growing, especially on how to spot fakes. I've collected stamps for fifty years...trading, buying, selling the whole thing & starting over again probably four times. Because I also love American history and have become a little bit of a Civil War crackpot, no part of my simple collection gives me more pleasure than the handful of CSA's and CSA Provisionals.
