At first glance, the cover appears to be a perfectly legitimate CSA Norfolk, Va cover. However, there are certain things which do not match. The stamp used was not issued until 1863. Norfolk, Va fell to the Union in April 1862. There was no further CSA mail out of Norfolk after April 1862. Also, the postmark used on the cover is not the CSA Norfolk mark but is rather one of the postmarks used pre-war in the early 1850's. The genuine blue CSA Norfolk, Va mark is illustrated below. Consequently, this is actually a pre-war 1850's cover converted to a CSA cover by removing the original USA stamp and matching a CSA stamp to the postmark.
