28 MAR 2009 -- During the weekend of 20-22 MAR
2009, the Confederate Stamp Alliance met in the Blockade Runner City of
Wilmington, North Carolina for the annual Mid-Year Gathering.
Approximately 30+ Confederate Stamp Alliance Members and Guests
gathered together for the traditional annual Confederate Philatelic
Weekend and Southern Supper. Host for the event was Tony Crumbley.
- An active trading room composed of major dealers in CSA material.
- Schuyler Rumsey from Schuyler Rumsey Auctions in San
Francisco was in attendance showing two soon to be auctioned
collections -- McCary Ballard CSA Georgia Collection and the Ron Tate
CSA 5c Green and Blue Lithographs Postal History Collection.
- Formal presentations --
- "Goldsboro NC CSA Patriotic Covers" by Maurice Bursey.
- "The Parry Correspondence from Salisburg Prison" by Larry Lohr.
- "North Carolina Postmark Catalog Project" by Richard Winter.
- The traditional CSA Hospitality Room throughout the course of
the meeting was extremely active. From the Hospitality Room was a great
view of the Cape Fear River with the Battleship North Carolina moored
directly across the river.
- The traditional Mid-Year Southern Supper on Friday evening.
CSA Generals in attendance were Gen Patricia Kaufmann, Gen Tony
Crumbley, Gen Frank Crown, Gen John Kimbrough, Gen James Monroe and Gen
Stefan Jaronski.
