Charleston Mid-Year Gathering
14-16 NOV 2008

22 NOV 2008 -- During the weekend of 14-16 NOV 2008, the Confederate Stamp Alliance met in Charleston, South Carolina for the annual Mid-Year Gathering. Approximately 30+ Confederate Stamp Alliance Members and Guests gathered together for the traditional annual Confederate Philatelic Weekend. Hosts for the event were James Monroe, Larry Baum and Richard Murphy.

• A very active trading room composed of eight major dealers in CSA material.
• Schuyler Rumsey was also in attendance showing the CSA postal history which will be in his first major auction of 2009.
• The high point of the trading room was James Monroe with the Ed Cantey Collection of South Carolina CSA postal history which he had for sale as individual items.
• Formal presentations --
  1. "Confederate Iconography and Southern History 1861-1931" by CSA member Steven Boyd a Professor of History at the University of Texas.
  2. "A Charleston Potpourri" by CSA member Robert Karrer a long time collector of Charleston and SC CSA postal history.
  3. Civil War Walking Tour in the Historic District with CSA member Jack Thomson, a noted Charleston historian.
• The traditional CSA Hospitality Room throughout the course of the meeting.
• The traditional Mid-Year Southern Supper on Saturday evening.

CSA Generals in attendance were Gen Patricia Kaufmann, Gen Tony Crumbley, Gen Frank Crown, Gen Peter Powell, Gen John Kimbrough, and Gen James Monroe.
