|VA3044||CSA #12c (AD) Greenish-Blue (margin just touches at the left) tied by a full bold strike of the Woodstock, Va
CDS 17 OCT (1863). Addressed to Mr. David Kagey, New Market,
Shenandoah, Va. Interesting original letter remains with the cover
which is short and deals with the sender (Geo H. Ott) making a pair of
deerskin gauntlet gloves for the addressee and the cost would be $1.75
but payment would be taken in dried apples instead. Very clean cover.
David F. Kagey (1834-1923) was a New Market merchant who had later service (1864) in the 25th Va Inf as a Hospital Steward. On the 1860 census, George H. Ott is listed as a "Glove Maker" in Woodstock, Virginia.
