VA2896 Stampless Yorktown, Va CDS handstamp Soldier's DUE 5 Type F 25 FEB (1862) (month is upside down in the CDS). Orange paper cover addressed to Mrs. H. P. Cochran, Charlottesville, Virginia. Endorsed at left "H. P. Cochran, 1st Reg Va Artillery." Howe Peyton Cochran (1834-1892) began service as a Sergt in the Albemarle Light Artillery (part of the 1st Va Artillery Regiment) and was discharged 5/27/1962 (furnished a substitute). He had later service as a staff officer in Pegram's Brigade and later in the war as an Ordnance Officer (Captain) in Pickett's Division. Wrapper type cover which apperars to have been a folded letter with the page that the letter was on removed. Very Fine. $125.00
