VA2881 CSA #12 (AD) (4-Margin with excellent color) tied by a full strike of the VIOLET Lynchburg, Va CDS 27 AUG.  Addressed to Mrs. Mary W. Moncure Care Hon R. C. L. Moncure, Richmond, Va.  R. C. L. Moncure was a prominent Judge of the Virginia Court of Appeals.  He and his wife Mary had at least two sons in the Confederate Army that I could find, Richard Cassius Lee Moncure (1831-1917) was a Corpl in Co B 9th Va Cav and Walker Peyton Moncure (1843-1916) was a Lieut in Co A 47th Va Inf. Cover most likely sent by one of the sons home to his mother.  Part of backflap and sideflap missing, but otherwise an overall Very Fine appearance with an extremely fine unusually clear strike of this Violet CDS. $250.00
