VA2799 CSA #2 Paterson Stone Y (margin close at bottom left) tied by the BLUE Lynchburg, Va CDS 18 NOV (1862), Addressed to Mrs. Hannah Craven, Brush Creek PO, Randolph Co. NC. Original letter is with the cover from the addressee's soldier son Pvt Robert F. Craven Co H 3rd NC Inf. In the letter, Pvt Craven states he is in the hospital in Lynchburg but feels like he is getting better. And he spends a page telling his mother how much things cost in Virginia (chickens one dollar each, eggs 50c a dozen, etc...). Pvt Craven is listed as having been captured as a POW at Frederick (Md) 9/12/1862 and exchanged 11/10/1862. This is only 8 days prior to this letter, so he must have been sick at the time of his exchnage and went directly to the hospital. He did not get better but is listed as having Died of Disease at Lynchburg 12/22/1862. Cover with part of back flap missing and a little light soiling but still quite presentable with an interesting letter.$250.00
