VA2740 CSA #73xu1 Salem NC Paid 5 Provisional 18 FEB (1862). Addressed to Mr. J. A. Lineback, Haw River NC. An almost identical cover from the same correspondence is illustrated on Page 318 of the Crown Survey. Julius Augustus Lineback (1834-1930) was a brass musician and enlisted as a muscian in the regimental band of the 26th NC Inf in March 1862. The regimental band of the 26th NC Inf was arguably one of the best in the Confederate Army and was with the regiment at Gettysburg. Julius A. Lineback is listed as captured as a POW at Amelia CH (Va) 4/4/1865, confined at Point Lookout, and released 6/28/1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
