VA2723 CSA #13 (margin just touches on the right) tied by the Richmond, Va CDS Powell Type 5g 21 OCT (1864). Addressed to Miss Mattie H. C. Waddell Care of Col Hay Turnbull, Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Va. No record of a Hay Turnbull in the Confederate Army or in the pre-war US Army. Hay Turnbull of Franklin County, Virginia (born 1817) is listed in the 1860 census as a Hotel Keeper. The use of "Col" is most likely honorary. Cover with some very light staining which does not detract from an overall very clean appearance. CSA Certificate 2006 which notes "Genuine" with the stamp showing some damage at the right lower corner. The damage mentioned on the certificate is extremely minor and is in the stamp margin only and does not detract from the overall appearance. Ex-Bartels. $750.00
