VA2719 Handstamp PAID 5 Type B with the Lexington, Va CDS all in BLUE 21 JUN. Not considered at this time to be a provisional use, but it could be. Charge Box notation at lower left. Addressed to Greenlee Davidson, Care Gov Letcher, Richmond, Va. Greenlee Davidson (1834-1863) was from a prominent Virginia family. In 1861, he was serving as an ADC to Virginia CSA Governor John Letcher with the Virginia state rank of Lt Col of Cavalry. He later entered regular service as Captain of the Letcher Artillery in Stonewall Jackson’s corps and was killed-in-action at Chancellorsville in May 1863. The sender of the cover is not identified. Small edge repair at top center, small part of backflap missing, corner crease at bottom left. Very clean appearance. $150.00
